 Why Sesame seeds are given importance in Vedic rituals?


In every ritual for the deceased persons, sesame seeds are used.

Without the sesame seeds, the rituals are not complete and effective.

Even when we offer food to crows, we should mix 4-5 sesame seeds and then offer.

In Amavasya and other tharpana rituals, we use sesame seeds.

Why Sesame seeds are given importance in Vedic rituals?

(1) Once Maha Vishnu was searching for His consort Lakshmi. Sweat flew from His body. Those droplets of the sweat took the form of Sesame seeds and started to grow on earth. So, Sesame seeds are auspicious.

(2) Where there are sesame seeds, there can not be ghosts or negative forces.

(3) If you have doshas in horoscope, donate sesame seeds liberally to brahmanas.  The doshas will not affect.

(4) Particularly, Sesame seeds can clear Shani dosha if Shani is in the 12, 1, 2, 7 or 8th houses in the horoscope.

(5) Only black sesame seeds should be used for rituals.

(6) Performing Tharpan using sesame seeds mixed with the water will greatly please our ancestors.
