WHY SHOULD THE DEVOTEES AVOID BETEL LEAVES & BETEL NUTS?

In India, it is the custom among the people to offer betel leaves and betel nuts whenever they send off the relatives or friends who visited their house.

Then, why the serious devotees who aim for the eternal life with Krishna avoid using betel leaves and betel nuts?

The reason is simple.

To focus on devotion alone, the devotees should not have attachments with the material pleasures.

When they use betel leaves and betel nuts, their sexual desires become more because betel leaves and betel nuts increase the lusty desires.

Therefore the devotees can not focus on devotion.

That is why, we are advised to avoid betel leaves and betel nuts.
