GLORIES OF LORD RAMA FROM SCRIPTURES!

GLORIES OF LORD RAMA FROM SCRIPTURES!

(Sri Rama Navami Fasting till the sun set; You can take water; Those who take tablets, take fruits and consult the doctor before fasting!)

(1) PADMA PURANA (LORD SIVA ABOUT RAMA NAMA):

rama rameti rameti
rame rame manorame
sahasra-namabhis tulyam
rama-nama varanane

‘Lord Siva addressed his wife Durga as Varanana and explained, “I chant the holy name of Rama, Rama, Rama and thus enjoy this beautiful sound. This holy name of Ramacandra is equal to one thousand holy names of Lord Visnu.”’

(2) SRI DASAVATARA STOTRAM, BY SRILA JAYADEVA GOSWAMI:

vitarasi diksu rane dik-pati-kamaniyam
dasa-mukha-mauli-balim ramaniyam
kesava dhrta-rama-sarira jaya jagadisa hare

“O Kesava! O Lord of the universe! O Lord Hari, who haze assumed the form of Ramacandra! All glories to You! In the battle of Lanka You destroy the ten-headed demon Ravana and distribute his heads as a delightful offering to the presiding deities of the ten directions, headed by Indira. This action was long desired by all of them, who were much harassed by this monster.”

(3) BRAHMANDA PURANA:

sahasra-namnam punyanam trir avrttya tu yat phalam
ekavrttya tu krishnasya namaikam tat prayacchati

If one utters shri-krishna-nama once, one obtains the same result that comes from chanting the pure visnu-sahasranama three times.

(A thousand names of Vishnu equals one name of Rama, and three thousand names of Vishnu - that is to say, three names of Rama - equals one name of Krishna. chanting Krishna's name once gives the same result as chanting Rama's name three times.)

(4) PADMA PURANA SATA-NAMA-STOTRA:

visnor ekaikam namapi sarva-vedadhikam matam
tadrk-nama sahasrena rama-nama-samam smrtam

“Chanting one name of Vishnu gives more benefit than studying all the Vedas, and one name of Rama is equal to a thousand names (sahasra-nama) of Vishnu.”
